One year old + cake + free reign = absolute cuteness!

Thanks for checking back! Debuting today is Emma’s first birthday cake smash photo session series… Let me tell you, she handled that cake like no other 12 month old I’ve ever seen. She was the best! She demolished her cake in under 5 minutes. Then she was even nice enough to share some with kitty Milo. Enjoy her sneak peek!

Hello, sweet baby blues.

Meet Emma; a quick movin’, Cheerio chompin’, just-turned-one-yesterday squishy chunk of sweetness. And then check out her cornflower meets stirred-up-ocean blue eyes. Ah-maz-ing. I did not do anything to enhance the color of her eyes at all, those are all her and I have to say I’m quite jealous.

My eyes are blue. Quite similar to Emma’s really. Which works considering Emma is my cousin Tony’s daughter and Emma got her blue eyes from him and Tony got his from our grandpa which is where I got mine . (Follow that?) I’m just jealous for my hot cocoa brown-eyed boys! With those eyes, Emma is going to be a heartbreaker for sure.

Emma had a one year/cake smash/family session all wrapped up into the tidy package of about 90 minutes. She did great! The sneak peek for now is only the one year/family photos. I’m still working on the cake smash and hope to post that later today or tomorrow so check back later for more Miss Emma. Enjoy!

Sneak peek… {bebe} Katie & family

What do you get a one year old for their birthday?

Well, if you are a sweet little punkin’ named Katie then I would suggest a rubber chicken! I took cue from the amazing Sandy Puc and brought along a plastic, yellow, bumpy chicken for Katie’s first birthday pictures and let me tell you, that chicken will never leave my prop bag.

Well… as long as I can pry it out of the hands of any kiddos within a 5 mile radius of where I’m shooting! They LOVE the chicken. Now, this is great for me! If tears start coming on or a meltdown seems imminent, I can count on that chicken to produce an instant smile. The only catch is getting the chicken away from them because I think about 99% of parents don’t want their lovely smiling angel posing with a semi-hideous, obnoxiously yellow, plastic chicken.

Katie was an absolute doll, with and without the chicken and brother Ben was a fabulous assistant for the day (check is in the mail, bud). Check out baby girl’s amazing blue-green eyes… and enjoy the sneak peek!

Fashion Friday | Spring Family Photos

“I have no idea what we should wear!”

This is THE most common comment I receive after a lucky family has booked a session. After all, it is pretty important. I don’t really see too many people purchasing a 30″x40″ gallery wrapped canvas to put over the fireplace featuring mom wearing a sweatsuit or dad wearing that nasty old ballcap or little miss wearing her favorite ratty old Dora tennis shoes. Considering the investment, you want to look good.

That is where we come in… After photographing numerous families over the last few years, we have a pretty good idea of how to help you look your best and how to accomplish that together. We have written a handy wardrobe FAQ with tips, tricks, and even ’Where to Shop’ suggestions to help you get started and are more than happy to offer personalized one-on-one assistance in your pre-session consultation.

To take that one step further, today we are featuring a What to Wear blog post that is all about spring family photos and builds off of our wardrobe FAQ. The main thing to remember when dressing a group for photographs is “Coordinating, not Matching”. See our wardrobe FAQ for all the details and see below for a visual representation of our advice.
