Sneak Peek {baptism} | Luke Artoush

Dedicated to God | Redmond Baby Photographer

Last Saturday, I was honored to photograph something new — a baptism! An Armenian baptism at that. The service was beautiful and was mostly in an Armenian chant which was very moving. The baby being baptized was little Mr Luke Artoush whom we’ve seen a few times; during his completely breathtaking maternity session, again for for his tearless newborn session, and most recently for his for his 5 month session amongst the cherry blossoms.

Baby Luke did a great job and the event was celebrated by lots of friends and family, some of whom traveled a far distance to celebrate. Thanks for having me, I had a blast!

Ruffles & Rust | Hat Spectacular sneak peek

Ruffles & Rust: The great hat debut! | Monroe Family Photographer

The super fab team over at Come Junk With Us is at it again!! This Friday, (TOMORROW!) is The Ruffles & Rust Spring Vintage Market Hat Spectacular! I am over the moon excited to be able to spend time with MY PEOPLE… the people who loveantiques, handmades, chippy paint and sheet music.

I photographed the Ruffles & Rust A Vintage Market to Inspire event last October and was thrilled to be invited back to photograph the Spring market this weekend. The theme in October was beauty pageant sashes. I crafted and created and ended up with a rockin’ sash that is proudly displayed in my overstuffed prop room office.

The theme for the event this time around is a hat spectacular and the info that came along with the invite is:

“Create a hat that best represents you, your business, blog, or Facebook fan page”

Totally cool, right? On my quest to procure the perfect CYE hat, my first stop was Etsy. I searched, and searched and SEARCHED the vintage listings. It had to be in line with my creative vision, be unique, and (lets face it) make me look GOOD. After a few weeks time looking, I came upon

Photo a la iPhone

THE hat .

So I made my purchase. After 3 weeks, the hat arrived… which was LAST Thursday. Naturally, I tore into the box as soon as the nice UPS man let me get my claws on it left it at my door. The color wasn’t quite what I thought it would be, but I could make it work. The brim was a little wonky, but I knew I could rock it.

So. I placed this bad boy on my head.

AND… Due to my unusually large brain size (supa smart girl her donchaknow?), it DID. NOT. FIT. And there was really no way my crafty self was going to be able to make it work. CRUD!!!!!!!!

Photo a la iPhone

So, last night I busted out the glue gun and frantically got to work creating crafting a hat. From scratch. Using on-hand items only. No pressure, right? Thankfully I like to hoard have a few necessary items on hand in case of crafting emergencies such as this. After a few hours working (while watching Idol, of course) I’ve finished my MASTERPIECE!

Jeff had been out in the garage avoiding mehaving some man time. As he came in, he found me admiring my handiwork in the mirror. He took a good, long look at me and pronounced “It kinda looks like the helmet the Nazgul (from The Lord of the Rings movies) wears.” Dear reader, do you KNOW what a Nazgul is?

(The flowers are a nice touch, aren’t they?)

A NAZGUL?! MY HAT LOOKS LIKE A NAZGUL HELMET?!

Well, then I’m gonna be ROCKIN’ a NAZGUL-ESQUE HAT OF AWESOME! A little of this:

PLUS THIS

Now, I’m not going to show you the completed hat here. You will have to show up at the event tomorrow (doors open at 4:30PM in Monroe) and FIND ME! If you do, mention this post and I’ll have a little something just for you!

Here is a SNEAK PEEK of my completed creation (please note, all are iPhone photos):

2011 Photog PIF… {giving back} | Seattle Photographer

Posted on January 2, 2011

January. Business plan month. Ugh.

As an artist, I prefer the ART side of my job to the business side. I put off accounting and behind the scenes tasks until the last minute every year. However, one good part of January is going over everything from the previous year and seeing what went right and what could’ve gone better. I am commited to giving back 10% of my income every year. Every year. I am proud to report that 2010 was a SLAM DUNK! Sessions, mentoring, post processing work and straight out cash were donated for a plethora of causes and greatly exceeded my 10% goal. Feels good.

But I can do better.

As a photographer, I know how infrequent it is for my family and I to be in front of the camera. We’re busy, I’ve got baby weight, and… well, that’s about it. Its been over a year since we had a family portrait and never have had a professional portrait session of just us. Sure… I can set up a tripod and a timer and HOPE for miracles or take a bajillion photos of my boys and their daddy myself. But what about me? How will my kids remember what I looked like cuddling them, kissing their scrunched noses,  and holding hands with their daddy if I am NEVER in any quality, professional images?

Easy. They won’t.

Time to fix that for YOU ladies.

One of my giving back events this year is the 2011 Photographer Pay-It-Forward (PIF). Every month, I want to photograph a different photographer and their family and give them a disc of retouched images COMPLETELY free of charge. No money, please. Just show up all decked out and fully styled and we will rock a session.

But there is a catch.

Each participating photographer has to pay it forward to another photographer within 3 months of their session. Get one and give one away. That’s it.

So… here is my ad for the free sessions… I can only accept 12 photographers. I will open up sign ups for a week and then will use random.org to select the winners. If you would like to be considered, check out the ad and follow the directions. Easy peasy.

I’d love to shoot you.

Sneak Peek… {Event} Ruffles & Rust | Monroe Event Photographer

Posted on October 26, 2010

I LOVE Vintage.

Really, it is no secret. I frequent The Goodwill, Value Village, St. Vincent DePaul and all other second-hand shops within a 25 mile radius… weekly. Twice a year, my sister, mother in law, myself and one other victim wake up at the crack of dawn to drive around Mill Creek for 7-8 hours for the semi-annual garage sales (and there are RULES to this trip, we are very serious!).

Currently, I own 3 prams, 3 vintage baby cribs, 12 pieces of hard-sided vintage luggage, a damask settee, a few trunks, some chairs and numerous baskets (among other things). I have recently been talked down from buying 2 other cribs, a large washtub on a stand, and an iron bed (thanks, Dana!). I just CANNOT. HELP. MYSELF. I get SO inspired by vintage props and can take one $15 dollar item and compose an entire, perfectly styled, uniquely visioned photo shoot in no time flat.

A few weeks ago, I was surfing facebook and came across this (amazingly wonderful, made just for me, perfect) event called Ruffles and Rust presented by Come Junk With Us. Dana and I attended their Friday evening Blogger/Facebook Fan Ball and photographed the vendor booths prior to the show’s opening. We also got to create beauty pageant sashes to wear during the event advertising our photography businesses. Check out Dana’s sash below!

Monroe Event Photographer

After photographing the booths, the gala started and we were free to shop! All of MY purchases were business related (just  (emphasis on the ‘just’) a crib, a chair and a crib canopy) unlike SOMEONE else’s purchases (coughDANAcough). The attendees of the event were also encouraged to show up in their best interpretation of rust, ruffles or ruffles and rust vintage evening wear. Let me tell you… there were some LOVELY ladies who did not disappoint.

The event was great and I had a grand time! Enjoy the video diary below and check out the vendor list at the end of this post. Cheers!

Pow! Ka-BOOM! Smash!

Welcome, dear readers, to the sneak peek for the Limited Edition SUPERhero event produced by CYE and Urban Utopia Photography! Last Sunday we had the pleasure of photographing 26 little boys (with 11 later this week due to the rain) and a few parents acting silly and crazy in some incredibly awesome superhero capes (lovingly crafted by my good friend Gail – Thanks, Gail!).

Our set was perfect; a faux brick wall, some burlap bags of ‘money’, a bat phone and a castle. The boys didn’t take much encouragement to get into character and go wild! It was a blast!! Thanks all parents and SUPERheroes for making it out to play…
