Miss Lacey and her big sister Danica revisited the CYE Photography studio just after Christmas for the 4 month installment of Lacey’s Baby’s First Year session plan. These two definitely gave me a run for my money (I must’ve been wearing my scary face both days I saw them!) but their parents and I ultimately prevailed in a wonderful gallery of memories! Scroll on down to view my favorite highlights and their Video Diary.

Special Delivery: Noelle | Seattle area Newborn Photographer

This is a special, special blog post. I hope you will read all the way to the end. You should in fact. I promise a warm, fuzzy feeling and maybe a few joyful tears will surprise you at the end.

Have you ever been in a NICU?

I have. My first baby spent 5 days in the NICU after he was born. The first time I met him, he was 12 hours old,  in an incubator, wires going everywhere, an IV line in his head… I immediately broke down in ugly tears. This was not what I had in mind for my first meeting with my first baby. Not. At. All. Thankfully, he was a full term, 9+ pound chunky, red, wiggly thing and was in the NICU for antibiotics, jaundice, and observation and we were able to break free of the NICU in 5 days and take our baby home.

Not every NICU baby has the same stay. Some stay for a few days, like my son, some stay for weeks and some stay for months.

Some moms have to leave the hospital without their baby.

I cannot even imagine.

This year, 2014, I want to serve all those moms.

How? I will come to the hospital and photograph your baby in the NICU, family included, for no cost and no strings. There is no session fee and nothing to purchase. I will provide you with all the digital images via digital download. If you elect to purchase a newborn session after your baby leaves the NICU, you will be eligible for a NICU graduation discount. If I never hear from you again after I visit you in the NICU, that is fine too.

Why? I know just a smidgen about what it feels like to be that mom looking at her baby through glass, or plastic. The one whose heart stops every time a monitor alarm goes off. The one who faithfully pumps breast milk every three hours so that a nurse can slowly drip it via syringe into the baby’s mouth. I’ve been the mom whose hands start to dry out because each time you visit the NICU you must scrub in. I know that the NICU isn’t the place you wanted your baby’s first photographs to occur.

While your NICU story may be different than mine, I know that this isn’t the beginning of life you anticipated for your baby. I’d love to serve your family by providing professional, beautiful images for you to look back on with your child to show them what a fighter they are, how strong they have been since the very beginning – no matter how tiny they started out.

How? Email Me (info@cyephotography.com) and let me know you are interested in the Special Delivery service. Tell your sister, your friend, that lady at church… whomever has a baby in the NICU. Just have them contact me and I will make myself available.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Noelle. She was born at 30 weeks and weighed in at 2 pounds, 11 ounces. These images are for her family to celebrate her miraculous arrival.

Welcome to the world, sweet girl.

The Bakers are back! I’ve been photographing their family since they were expecting their first child. Now, a few short years later, they’ve not only had their son, but a daughter also!! We met up for a family session at my Everett studio and had an hour of fun. Big brother, Kingston, tried to give us a run for our money, but we ultimately prevailed. Check them out below (including a special behind-the-scenes image)!

Sweet and Serious | Everett Baby Photographer

Little miss Vivienne is on the blog tonight with a sneak peek from the 4 month installment of her baby plan sessions. She came in to visit me at the end of last week and although she wasn’t full of smiles, she wasn’t full of tears either. She was very content to just hang out and look around the studio at all we have going on there. Her parents, Anna and Ben, were also in tow and they are SO fun and full of laughter that the whole session was full of joy. I can’t wait to see how Viv changes in the next 4 months!

Sweet Girl

This is Madeline! She is a super sweet little missy with a flair for a little drama. She is the kind of baby that you have to let warm up to you and then it is all baby jibberish and drooly smiles. This little sweetheart visited the studio twice to complete her sessions. She wasn’t feeling 100% at her first appointment so mom and I planned another little shoot to round out her gallery. Worth it, I’d say! Check her out below:

Project 52: Week 2

Flight

Welcome to week 2 of my yearlong photography project. After an impromptu, super quick shoot for week one  (think a black sheet draped over the backs of kitchen chairs butted up against the sliding glass door,) I put a little more effort into week two. Enough that I was stacking counter height stools on tables and then precariously leaning/teetering on said stool.

Yes. I did fall. My pride, and my right shoulder, is all jacked up. Worth it though!

Any theme suggestions for next week? Let me know!

Little Studmuffin

Meet baby Dexter! My first client of 2013. Dexter’s mommy received a gift certificate for a newborn session at her baby shower. Isn’t that an incredible gift?!

We met up at the studio in Everett last week for his newborn session and Dexter was a COMPLETE angel. Seriously. 90 minutes in and out. Usually a newborn session lasts an average of 3 hours! Check him out below:

2013: Personal Project

Posted on January 7, 2013

p52

Last year, I attempted Project 365 as my personal photography project for the year. P365 is one image a day for a year. I think I made it to week 3 or so and then… life got in the way. This year, I thought about attempting Project 52 which is very similar to P365 but instead of one image a day for a year, P52 is one image a week for a year.

And here is is… January 7th. The first week almost gone already and I was still without an image.

However, I did not feel discouraged. I tend to work best under pressure you see. My ultimate goal for P52 this year is to stretch myself; creatively, professionally, personally. Each week I want the image to take me outside of my comfort zone in one way or another. This could be a self portrait without make-up, a complicated lighting situation, intense Photoshop manipulation, whatever I fancy that week. I’m sure some weeks will be a bust and my P52 for that week will just be another ridiculously cute image of my boys, but… I’m OK with that.

The first image of P52:2013 is below.

The challenge? I was stuck at home on a dreary, gray day. The kids were eating lunch and daylight is slipping away. I gave myself 15 minutes and 10 frames to come up with something I could be proud of. So, I threw a black sheet over the backs of some dining room chairs right next to our sliding glass door, jammed my mkii on a tripod, grabbed a 16×20 piece of white foam core, and pulled my scarf up.

See you around next week!
